Studio Movie Grill started in Dallas, Texas in 1993. The 2nd location was in Addison, Texas. Nowadays, this Texas predilection for grilled food with moviegoing has spread all over the US. Showcase has theatres in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and of course, Texas.
Showcase features the standard technologies for both 2D and 3D movies. This is why the prices are so reasonable.
What makes the Showcase experience so memorable isn’t the technology. It’s how you watch the movies.
Ordering Your Food and Drinks
This starts with the American-style restaurant in all theatres, accompanied by the full-service bar. Book your movies online (to get your reserved seats), and then arrive about 20 minutes before show time. That way, you can find your seats, and then use the built-in service button to place your orders. The food will then be delivered to your seats.
What’s really unique here is that you can order food and drinks even while the movie is playing. It’s not annoying when others beside you do it, because it doesn’t disturb anyone.
You even have 4 seating options to pick from. The first seating option has the seats sharing a table surface. You can go with desk-style chairs or stationary chairs. Then there’s the countertop seats, which share counterspace and with your choice of desk-style chair.
The 3rd option is using lounge seats with stationary chairs. You have a lot more elbow room when you sit, while the tray table offers more space for the food and drinks.
Finally, there’s the reclining lounge seats. These sure are relaxing, and there’s a built-in tray table too.
Of course, the menu options differ depending on your location. But the Dallas location sure offers yummy treats, with cocktails, wines, and beers to go with burgers, pizzas, sliders, chicken tenders, quesadillas, and various starters.
Try the various margaritas (or as they call it here, the “ritas”). The Perfect Patron rita includes SMG Barrel Select Patron Reposado and Patron Citronge Orange. The Studio Blue, on the other hand, uses 100% Blue Agave Tequila with DeKuyper Triple Sec and Blue Curacao.
Go with cheese fries and crispy wings for your starters, though as the movie plays, you’ll really want the gourmet popcorn. If you’re really hungry, you can go with the BBQ Bacon Cheddar, the SMG burger, the 3-Cheese Burger Sliders, or the Brisket Sliders.
Pizza is also great, especially with a large group and a shared table. The Meat-Eater is a perennial favorite (especially in Texas), though many stick with the classic Pepperoni. You can even build your own pizza, adding $2 for each topping you want.
Don’t forget about the desserts, either. You can go with the ice cream milkshakes or the brownie sundae. But you can also go with M&Ms, Milk Duds, or Sour Patch Kids.
As you may have noticed, with Studio Movie Grill, you’re not really going to the movies with the bonus of excellent food. It’s more like going out to eat, but with the bonus of excellent movies!
