Edwards is now currently owned by the Regal Entertainment Group. The Edwards acquisition actually made Regal the 2nd-largest cinema chain in the entire world. Only AMC is larger.
Edwards started out way back in 1930, during the early days of Hollywood. The first Edwards theatre, not surprisingly, started in California and was opened by William James Edwards Jr. By the time Edwards passed away in 1997, the Edwards cinema chain operated in 90 locations with a total of 560 screens.
Unfortunately, an overly ambitious plan for US and world-wide expansion didn’t pan out, and consequently the Edwards brand filed for bankruptcy in 2000. Regal acquired the brand after several rounds of ownership changes.
Edwards theatres offer a superb viewing experience, with premium HD screens matched with audiophile-grade sound systems.
Online ticketing is available, and you can even buy concessions online as well. Once you get to the theatre, you can simply show your printed ticket confirmation pages to access your seats and concessions.
The high-tech features here may boggle the mind, starting with such technologies available like 4DX. As the name here suggests, this is way beyond 3D. The experience involves motion-enabled seats that provide powerful sensations and vibrations. The 4DX equipment can even simulate weather conditions, like rain, lightning, fog, and even powerful smells.
There’s IMAX, and RPX, with the huge screens and heart-pounding sound. The images are so clear with superbly clear sound that you might think you’re right there where the movie is happening. You even have the ScreenX technology, which expands the screen along the walls on the side so that you see the movie unfolding 270 degrees.
You can enjoy these fantastic technologies with the most comfortable seats, such as the recliner seats that really get you relaxed and ready for viewing (though at select locations only). These seats are huge, so you won’t have to worry about getting into the seat. You’ll have ample elbow room as well.
The seats can also be adjusted in many ways, to make sure you’re seated exactly how you’d want to. The seats include footrests as well, so you can literally put your feet up. The armrests are large as well, so you have space for your elbows along with plenty of snacks (including that huge bucket of popcorn).
If you’d rather watch the movie only with your friends and family, you can. Edwards offers a Private Watch Party service for up to 20 people. This is extremely popular, however, and you’ll need to file your request at least 2 weeks before the scheduled viewing day.
